Did you know a process that combines preservation, patience and science? A technique of preservation that exists for centuries’, we call it fermentation. To understand this process that gives unique sour flavors to our food, you need to know what’s the fermentation, and how to do it.
What can fermentation do?
First, what is the fermentation? Well, it’s a process that consists of letting foods like cabbage in their own juice with salt for a variable amount of time. Back in the days, they use it to preserve food, but now we just use it to make some food taste better. But it doesn’t only make food taste better, it’s either good for your gut health. But why, because when fermenting some food create what is called lactic aside, lactic acid is what makes fermented food taste sour. It has other benefits, it breakdowns the big bacteria to make them smaller, it’s like a pre-digestion. And that’s what makes it better for your gut health, because it’s easier to digest.
How to ferment food.
Secondly, how can we ferment food? Well, it’s pretty simple for example sriracha is fermented, and you can do it a home. To do it, just add spicy peppers, garlic, ginger and sugar in a food processor. But, don’t forget the main ingredient, salt. Salt is very important because, it has the power of squeezing the juice out of food. So, that will create a wet environment, and we’ll let our sriracha ferment for five days.
Finally, we’ve seen what’s fermentation, and how to make a recipe from it. But, how can we make a fermented bread?
