Is there’s a recipe that combines soap, science and maths? A hobby that is very underestimated, its soap making. To make soap you will need to know the ingredients, safety rules, materials and working steps.
Safety rules
Secondly, making soap can sound very family-friendly, simple and easy-to-make, but it’s actually as dangerous as chlorine. However, don’t worry if you stay safe it’s gonna be all right. To begin, you need to know that lye is very dangerous. Because, if your skin touches lye it can burn very badly, and if there’s contact between your eyes and lye, it can cause blindness. So, stay safe and grab safety gloves, safety glasses and long clothes. After, lye can, for example, damage aluminum and wood. So, be sure to use heat-safe non-reactive containers, silicone utensils and an immersion stick blender. If you make sure to follow each step, everything will be all right.
Working Steps
Thirdly, now you know all the ingredients, every safety and the material. With all that in your hand, you are now ready for the working steps. First, you absolutely need to know about the saponification. But you’re probably wondering what’s saponification. Well, from the dictionary Antidote, it’s the process by which soap is made. So now that you know what’s that, we can continue. In a cup, put your distilled water. After in a separate bowl measure your lye. Then slowly incorporate your lye to your water and whisk until it reaches a temperature around 190f (do not do the opposite it can create a giant fume and you don’t want to breathe those). After, set your lye water to a safe place, so it cools down. Then, melt your coconut oil and mix it with your canola oil and olive oil. Next, your lye water should be at a temperature that is around 145, and your oil 135. afterwards, slowly pour your lye water into the oil, but be sure to do that and not the opposite. If you accidentally poor your oils in the lye water it can be very damaging. You can either scrap the excess with a spatula and mix with the hand mixer until it has the texture of a light pudding. Afterwards, slowly add your fragrance and mix with a spoon. Next, put parchment paper into your mould and tape it. Then pour your soap mixture in and give it a few taps on the counter to take out any bubbles. Next, take a piece of Saran-wrap and put it on top of your mould, and wrap it with a towel. Wait 24 hours, or until the soap is hard enough to pull out of the mould, and wait some weeks, around 6 weeks or do tong taste.
Finally, we’ve seen each ingredient, safety rules, material and working steps. However, how do we do liquid soap?
